Happy Halloween!

IMG_2122Also known as NaNoWriMo Eve!

I’ve not decided if I’m going to be doing NaNoWriMo this year – between work, family life and studying towards my degree, time to write is scarce at the moment.

That said, I’ve been reading my way through the fantastic Save the Cat! Writes a Novel by Jessica Brody, based on the books by Blake Snyder. Brilliant resource for every writer, no matter what your experience or choice of genre(s). I’m hoping it’ll help kick start my writing mojo as it seems to have disappeared under the pressure of everything else.

In release news, the whole of the Knights and Brides trilogy is now available to buy exclusively from Amazon, and 10th November brings the final novel in The Realm of Larnasia trilogy. War of the Realms concludes the series in a hopefully satisfactory way so fingers crossed its readers enjoy it.

That’s all from me for now… Happy writing to those of you taking part in NaNoWriMo – whether you’re a plotter or a pantser, I wish you every success in hitting your 50,000 words!

And it’s done!

LWL book 4 is finished!

It was oddly easy to write 50000+ words over the course of NaNoWroMo but the last 24000 seemed to be a bit of a struggle. Nevertheless, they’re written, it’s done, and now it can sit on my laptop for a little while until I’m ready to come back and edit it.

Phew.

I’d hoped I’d finish this series by the end of the year but I didn’t actually think I was going to do it. And since I’ve got no one who understands what a personal achievement it is in my real life away from my computer, I thought I’d write a little post to commemorate the occasion.

I’m happy. I’m a bit proud of myself, to be honest. It’s been a tough year, there’ve been weeks where I’ve just not had the energy or the motivation to write, but somehow, over the course of the last 361 days, I’ve written just under 180,000 words. It’s just shy of the goal I set myself of aiming for 500 words a day so… Yeah. I’m pleased.

I hope all of my fellow writers reading this have had a good year for writing, and that everyone who stumbles across this has had a good year in general.

Here’s looking to 2018, and whatever new adventures it might bring.

NaNoWriMo check in #3

45,000 words.

My fingers are aching and a little bit numb (it’s very cold today) but the story is flowing and going in directions other than what I thought it would so I’m happy.

I’m writing.

My aim is to hit 50,000 by Wednesday and see how much of the story I can get done before the 30th November. My overall general goal for this novel is around the 75,000 mark but I’m not putting pressure on myself to reach that before the end of the month. Before the end of the year will suit me perfectly, and be far more than I anticipated for this year!

How’s everyone else doing?

About half of the writers I speak to are on track to hit the 50K this year, which is a nice feeling. There seems to be something about this year that was missing last November – we’re all finding motivation and inspiration from somewhere and while we’re going at our own paces, we’re all writing and that makes us happy. Even those in the group who aren’t going to hit 50K are happy because they’re making progress on projects that have been evading them for a couple of months and that in itself makes it all worthwhile.

I hope any writers out there reading this are finding inspiration, too, and are finding the words they need, regardless of how many of them there are.

Just keep writing, folks. That’s all we can do.
