It’s day three of NaNoWriMo and I have reached the conclusion that writing is hard. Especially when you’re trying to do it around other stuff.
Well, the writing itself isn’t hard as such. If I’m left in peace to do it, I can babble for England if I need to. Admittedly, at least half will be deleted at a later date but I can get words down on paper/on screen if I have the time to do so.
Today, I had to be at work early for a meeting that I didn’t really need to be at (the organisation I work for excels at having meetings to discuss what should and shouldn’t be said at the meeting you’re having with someone else about the meeting that’s planned with another someone else usually outside of the organisation for later that week. Seriously. I thought meetings about meetings was joke until I started working here.)
But I digress.
I went in early, thinking I’d get my usual morning writing done at my lunch break. I then didn’t get a lunch break. I also didn’t get to leave on time, and when I got home, I found my two adorable distractions aka nephew 1 and nephew 2 waiting for me.
I know other writers like to hammer home the message that you need to make time to write, that you have to be firm and insist you get left alone in order to do it but that’s easier said than done when you work full-time and have family commitments when you get home.
Sigh.
Today has been a hard writing day, but I’m hoping to catch up at the weekend.
Word count for today: 1058 (and I’m pretty sure at least half of that will get cut later.)
Word count total so far: 4347
That’s 653 behind the total NaNo tells me I should be at on Day Three.
I hope my fellow NaNoWriMo’s are having more success!
